Once our eyes are opened, we can't pretend we don't know what to do. God, who weighs our hearts and keeps our souls, knows what we know, and holds us responsible to act. Proverbs 24:12

Congratulations to Rogers Family!
My friend, Kristin, and her hubby got their referral today...a one month old baby girl! I am thrilled for them! Kristin and I have been encouraging each other during this wait time. It's so wonderful having friends going thru the same ups and downs in this crazy adoption process! Check out their blog here: http://rogersadoptionstory.blogspot.com/
We are thinking since the Rogers got their referral before we did, ours must be "in the works". We are hoping that whatever paperwork needed to complete ours will come through this week! Keep us in your prayers! These last few days have been rough. I know it will all be worth it when we see our baby's face!!

10 Months Waiting
We reached our "10 month waiting mark" today. We never thought we'd be waiting this long to be matched with our child.

Taking a Fun Break from the Waiting Game
Lately, all I have been thinking about has been WHEN ARE WE GETTING OUR REFERRAL?? I have been anxious everyday for the past few weeks, literally coming home from work exhausted from stressing over the phone ringing! Over the weekend I went with my friend, Nicole, to a Trace Adkins concert. We had a great time and it definitely took my mind off of referrals for a little while! :) Of course today is a new day and I am anxious again!

Our Story Leading Us To Adopt
I posted this a long time ago but thought I would share it again since I have more people reading our blog these days! :)
I have been asked a lot about why we are adopting and thought I'd write about our story. I have wanted to adopt a child internationally since I was in High School. I remember reading an article in my mom's Ladies Home Journal about the orphanages in China. I knew at that moment that I would adopt someday. Eddie and I dated all through High School so he knew what he was getting into way before we got married! I didn't know exactly when we would adopt but knew it was something I had to do. After we had two boys I started thinking about adoption but didn't think it would be possible for us until after the boys were older. Then Eddie and I attended a Steven Curtis Chapman concert and he showed a video about his adoptions. At the end of the video, he announced that adoption info was available in the lobby. I was crying by the end of the video and Eddie turned to me and said "let's go get the info and get this started". Because I had read about all the baby girl orphans in China, we decided to start the process with China. We were in the China program for several years. It was very discouraging hearing about the wait time increasing with every month. I started getting an uneasy feeling about our adoption and started wondering if God was really leading us to China. About the time I was feeling uneasy, I remember watching Oprah one afternoon by myself. (I don't watch her anymore since she's so mixed up on Christianity!) The show was about the people in Africa, mainly the women and children, and I sat there and cried as I watched. Usually if something is sad to me I turn it off, but I sat and watched the whole show. I knew at that moment that I really had a heart for the people of Africa. Then of all things, it wasn't too much longer until American Idol did it's first Idol Gives Back and it showed a lot of clips of Africa. Once again, I was just drawn to it. I recorded it and watched it several times by myself. I started thinking that maybe later on down the road, we could look into adopting from Africa. It's funny to think that God could use Oprah and American Idol to get my attention, but I truly believe I was meant to see both. Then one day while I was pretty discouraged, I pulled up America World's website just to read and see if there was anything new on their site. I couldn't believe my eyes. They were starting a new program.....in Ethiopia. When I read it, my heart started pounding fast and my eyes filled up with tears. I knew God had some different plans for us.After a lot of prayer and discussion with Eddie, we decided that the China program was not for us. We dropped out of China and began the Ethiopian program. We lost most of the money we had paid over the years for China, but we knew it didn't matter and that God would provide a way. So far the road to Ethiopia has gone so smoothly. Looking back at our process with China, we ran into so many snags along the way. Now I can see that it wasn't meant for us and that God is truly guiding us throughout our Ethiopian adoption. People have asked me if it was sad for us to back out of the China program after we had waited for so long, but I can honestly say it wasn't sad for us. We had total peace about it and knew God was totally in control. Now we cannot wait until we meet our little baby girl or boy. The journey to bring this child home has been a long one and a little crazy at times, but we know it will be worth it when we hold our baby in our arms for the first time.

Just for Fun
I totally stole this from Amy Bottomly's blog. She stole it from someone else's so I guess it's okay. :)
In honor of Valentines Day, I bring you..
How well do I know my Husband?
1. Your spouse is sitting in front of the TV, what is on the screen?
Football, NCIS, or the Food Channel
2. Who takes longer showers, you or him?
I do, although I usually take baths. He can be in and out of the shower in 5 minutes.
3. What is one food your spouse doesn't like?
Too many to post! Casseroles, anything with sour cream, anything with bell peppers, cheesecake...the list could go on and on...
4. What would your husband say is the first thing that caught his eye about you?
Hmmm...my eyes??
5. Where did he go to high school?
Duncan. We went to High School together.
6. What is his shoe size? 12
7. If he was to collect something, what would it be?
Maybe tools? Although he had all of them stolen a while back because he didn't listen to me when I asked him to get them out of the toolbox in the driveway.
8. What is his favorite type of sandwich?
A meatball sub sandwich.
9. How does he take his coffee?
He will not drink coffee. I should have added that to the list above.
10. What is his favorite cereal? Captain Crunch or Grape Nuts
11. Where did he go to college?
Southwestern Oklahoma State University and Cameron University.
12. What is his favorite sports team?
Dallas Cowboys, OU
13. Where was your first date?
I think it was to the movies to see Rambo III.
14. What is something I do that he wishes I wouldn't?
De-clutter his "stuff".
15. What is his heritage?
Scots/Irish, some Indian
16. You bake him a cake for his birthday, what kind is it?
Chocolate without icing. (Could add icing to the list above also.)
17. What could he spend hours doing?
Building something, watching football, talking!
18. What is one unique talent he has?
He plays drums!
19. Where is his favorite place he has traveled?
Maui, Hawaii (That's where we went on our honeymoon.)
20. What is a clothing item he would never wear?
bow tie.

Continued from last post...
Be sure to read the previous post before reading this one...I was hoping to hear crickets and frogs today...I did sort of. The boys and I were in the car on our way home and we start hearing crickets and frogs. Andrew's eyes get big and he says "Mom..." Then Brad Paisley starts singing the fishing song. It starts out with crickets and frogs too. Dang that Brad Paisley...
Good news though!! We moved up in line today! 2 referrals! So now we are 1st in line for a boy and 2nd for a girl!!! We can get the call at any moment now!!

Ring Tones
Okay...so I've got different ring tones on my cell phone. When Eddie calls me, it plays "Love Story" by Taylor Swift, when family calls me it plays "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd (my favorite song), and when friends, etc. call me it plays "Light On" by David Cook. When someone calls me who is not one of "my contacts", for example...our adoption agency, my phone rings with frogs croaking and crickets chirping. So...I am really hoping to hear frogs and crickets T H I S W E E K!! Today would even be nice...

So it's February...
So it's February...I can't help but wonder when referrals will start for this month! Maybe this week!
It is feeling so very real now. I know I have probably said this before, but it is so amazing to love someone so much whom I have never met. I love my husband and boys and I have such a happy life, but there's still this little ache in my heart...a little piece that's missing...that longs to have our baby home with us. Please continue to pray for us as we wait and hopefully I will be posting more referrals this week...maybe even ours!!
